United States. Army; Infantry; 92nd Division; 365th Regiment; Company MBlack1st Lieutenant Henry Alvin Cameron was an African American officer in the United States Army in World War I. He was the first of three black soldiers from Tennessee appointed to the rank of officer and also the first to die. Before the war, he was a science teacher and coach at Pearl High School in Nashville (Tenn.). In 1919, the American Legion established Henry A. Cameron Post 6 in Nashville. In 1928, the Nashville City School Board named Cameron School in his honor.
