Shield created by the Sidamo people of Ethiopia.Shields like this one were used in battle by the Sidamo and other peoples in southern Ethiopia. Special craftsmen would fashion the shields from the hides of thick-skinned animals like elephants, hippos and rhinoceros.Anonymous gift to the Tubman African American Museum.
