Description

Effie Power, Director of work with Children at Cleveland Public Library from 1920-1937 worked closely with Langston Hughes during the years that he lived in Cleveland, Ohio. This series of documents include a poem, Youth, that Hughes wrote in the Children's department day book, correspondence between Hughes and Power about The Dream Keepr and about his article Books and the Negro Child. A typescript of the article, and Power's introduction for the article, is part of the correspondence. There is also correspondence between Power and Della McGregor about the publication of Hughes' article by the American Library Association.
