Holograph, signed with initialsWilliam Lloyd Garrison traveled from Altoona, Pa., to Pittsburgh, Pa. Since no one met him at the depot in Pittsburgh and there was no announcement of his lecture in the papers, he continued on his journey to Salem, Ohio. In Salem, he was welcomed by Benjamin Smith Jones and Jane Elizabeth Jones.
