Description

In this WSB newsfilm clip from July 25, 1962, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaks at a press conference in Albany, Georgia and announces a day of penance after riots in Albany. King first states that, although members of the Albany Movement were not involved in the riots, civil rights leaders are declaring a "day of penance," as members of the movement "abhor violence so much" that they must assume partial responsibility for the violence that occurred. King says that the day of penance demonstrates the commitment to peace and nonviolence held by civil rights workers.
