Description

Arbitration between Alexander Gillespie and William Taylor, Blount County, Tenn., over the "taking care of a certain negro woman (Clara) and raising her family by the s[ai]d Alexander Gillespie." Clara, a slave, is at the time the property of William Taylor. The document records that Gillespie binds himself in the amount of two thousand dollars to abide by the decision of the abitrators in resolving the dispute with Taylor.
