Index to the oral history interview with Rusty Hassan, a white man and husband of African-American civil rights activist Sondra Barret Hassan whose oral history is included in our March on Washignton Oral History Project, recounts his life as a devoted jazz fan and music journalist who became closely involved in the D.C. Jazz scene when he moved to D.C. to attend Georgetown University. He recounts details of connections made with many famous jazz artists, performances he attended in the U Street area, and his later travels in Europe among the avant-garde European Jazz scene of the 1960s. After the U St. riots and the redevelopment of Southwest D.C.
