"Marvin Stamm, an aspiring young musician at Central High School not too many years ago, returned to Memphis last night and showed an audience of about 1,800 people at the Overton Park Shell why he is one of the country's top jazz trumpeters. -- Performing with the Tommy Ferguson Trio, the Memphis State Jazz Band and the Jazz Symphony Orchestra, Stamm was the guest artist in this season's final 'Music Under the Stars' concert. -- Stamm, alternating on trumpet and flugel horn, exhibited a brilliant sensitivity in his expressive and seemingly effortless performance...."
