Small journal kept by John Calvin Williams during the yellow fever epidemic in Dry Grove, Mississippi, in 1878. According to the note pasted later into the front of the journal, Williams himself died of the fever on October 31, 1878.[typed note pasted in front cover] This little book contains a few things written down by my dear father, John Calvin Williams, during the awfull [sic] yellow fever epidemic here, at Dry Grove, Miss, during the fall of 1878. In which my father died with the fever on the 31st of October - 78 , It plainly showes [sic] that my father was in deep trouble and turned to God for help. I am satisfied that he was converted, and I truly hope and believe, was saved. It showes [sic] that Miss Jane Flewellen, who lived with us, died on Monday the 2nd day of October, so also Tom & Charlie Caston, and on the same day a negro woman, Caroline Wolfe, died. On the 4fourth [sic] Tom Caton died. CA Williams [page 1] To Bryann Coben (?
