Description

Mr. Woodward came to Georgetown University around 1895 as an athletic trainer and is probably the first African American to have been involved in Georgetown athletics. He traveled to the 1900 Olympics held in Paris with a group of three Georgetown sprinters, Arthur Duffy, William Holland, and Edmund Minahan, who represented the U.S. The trio won four medals in Paris -- one gold, two silver and one bronze. This still stands as the highest medal total by Georgetown athletes at any single Olympic Games.
