The slumping Minnesota Twins are hoping a new player in the lineup will help them turn things around in the second half of the season. The Twins acquired outfielder Shannon Stewart yesterday from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Bobby Kielty. Kielty was considered one of the top prospects on the Twins. Stewart is in the last year of his contract and will be a free agent at the end of this season. Manager Ron Gardenhire says Stewart will play right field and bat leadoff for the Twins. Speaking of leadoff hitters, seventy-seven year old Minnie Minoso (min-OH-so) batted leadoff for the St. Paul Saints last night at Midway Stadium. He drew a walk in the first inning and was replaced by a pinch runner. The appearance made Minoso the first baseball player to play in a pro game in seven different decades.
