Description

1863 July 16 Southgate Cregmile in Decher Station, Tenn., to his brother Crittenden. Continuous rain was the highlight on the trek from Murfreesboro. Not much action now that Bragg's Confederate forces are so far out of range; however, deserters continue to flood the camp by the hundreds with many more lying in wait to do the same. With Brig. Gen. Rosencrans's reputation as a commander and the presence of numerous mounted infantry seven shooters, under Gen. Turchin's command; retreat by both Bragg's and Morgan's forces continues to increase. Payday nears. Write soon.
