Description

Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.William Lloyd Garrison writes to Mary Anne Estlin stating that he has arrived in Great Britain after completing the transatlantic "voyage in less than ten days and a half, fortunately encountering no gales, no fog, and no icebergs." Garrison says he is traveling with his "beloved son Frank" and that he has accepted an invitation to stay with Mary Carpenter at the Red Lodge while in Bristol. He tells Estlin he has many friends to see "and in some instances shall be only able barely to do more than to say 'Hail, and farewell,' almost in the same breath." Garrison also reports on the deaths of Edmund Quincy and Philip Carpenter, stating that "My respect and attachment to him was very strong." He tells Estlin that they hope to be in Bristol to see her by the end of June and tomorrow they are going to Manchester.
