Description

Photograph caption reads, "Perez Prado, who jazzed up the rhumba and invented the mambo, today took steps to try to keep his brother from cashing in on his fame as the Mambo King. In Cuba, he was born Damaso Perez Prado but in Superior Judge Arnold Praeger's court, he dropped the first name so that from now on he will be legally just 'Perez Prado,' which he has used professionally for 20 years anyway. The name-change was obtained, according to his attorney, Morton E. Feiler, so that there would no longer be any doubt as to who is the Perez Prado. The brother, Pantalone Perez Prado, is now touring Europe with an orchestra, billing himself as Perez Prado, the attorney claimed. He said legal steps were to be taken to try to stop him." Photograph dated September 22, 1955.
