Description

Eloise Rushforth recounts her family's close relationship with their neighbors, the Grahams and the Blacks, and her memories of Billy Graham as a boy and later as a budding evangelist in Charlotte, North Carolina. She recalls joint family vacations to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the youthful shenanigans of Billy Graham. Ms. Rushforth also tells of Rev. Graham's early preaching experience at Sharon Presbyterian Church where he surprised churchgoers by delivering an evangelical sermon to a more traditionally mainline congregation. Ms. Rushforth's interview briefly touches on issues of race relations in churches in the 1950s, and her involvement in the 1972 Billy Graham Crusade as a choir member.
