Several people are standing in front of the first business, a clothing store named Cohen's. In the street farther along are several African American men standing around a horse-drawn wagon. On the left side of the street is the Broadway Market, a large auditorium-like building. Splitting Broadway Street in half, the Market provides fresh meats and vegebables to the community. An African American woman and man appear to be waiting by the Market, perhaps for a streetcar. Overhead, two men are working on power lines. Tracks are embedded in the cobblestone roadway, and electric lines for streetcars are suspended above the center of the street.
