Description
Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.James S. Gibbons writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to receiving a letter from Jacob Ferris with the information that $50, pledged at Cadiz, Ohio, had been paid to the American Society and the request that it be charged to Ferris's account, the writer has this scruple: "This would be in contravention of the specific understanding that the Western mission should be dependent on donations received as the fruit of its own exertions." He thinks Ferris "could not have been properly advised."
