Description

Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Sarah Pugh writes to Elizabeth Peace Nichol that Elizabeth Cady Stanton asked her to write to England ([where Nichol lives]) that “we may get answers by May” and to give her her regard. After acknowledging the advance made on the women’s status in society, Pugh expresses her concern that there haven't been enough efforts to admit women as delegates to the upcoming Paris Conference. She says she knows of nobody attending from the US. She then lists “some very earnest workers” in the US and their activities. Finally, Pugh says she is enclosing Mary Grew’s reports, which is “remarkable as a record of what the country has done the past year,” but adds that “[h]ow much the Society has helped is a question.” She says she does not think “it is important to keep up the old machinery.”
