Deed of manumission dated November 21, 1846 by James Jourdan, "a free man of colour" of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, for his Negro girl named Airy Jourdan. Witnessed by Richd. J. (Richard J.) Gambrill and Justice of the Peace R. (Richard) Gambrill on November 21, 1846 and recorded by the late clerk Jno. L. (John L.) Moore and examined by the present district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on January 18, 1847, the document identifies Airy as age 4 years and specifies her manumission to take effect when she reaches age 20 years. (Editor's note: During this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851.)
