Sexton, Editor for the United Mine Worker's of America Journal, acknowledges receipt of Du Bois's report, "The Negro Artisan" and thanks for the academic interest in African American workers and for "taking an interest in the colored man as a worker. The United Mine Workers have always welcomed the Negro into their union. A Negro D. R. Davis, was a member of our first National Executive Board...."
