Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Above the salutation, the number "130" is written in pencil.J.H. Rutherford writes to William Lloyd Garrison inviting him to give "an address to us in the New Town Hall." Rutherford states, "This I am sure will be pleasant to you, for nowhere are there warmer friends of freedom ..." He also says that Garrison's presence "will do us good, for though slavery is dead, the spirit that gave it birth lives in too many of our hearts."
