Description
Speaker Colfax and several gentlemen have recently visited Salt Lake City. The group’s reports are a mixture of praise and censure. Two newspaper men, Mr. Richardson of the Tribune and Mr. Bowles of the Springfield Republican, have written about their first impressions. They congratulate the Mormons for their industriousness and for the success they have made of Utah. They are, however, appalled at polygamy. After citing a discussion with Brigham Young concerning the matter, the article determines that the system of polygamy is unjust to women.
