Question asked: Who did you consider to be an influential Puerto Rican figure during the time of your involvement with the Young Lords? Garden Acosta states that the following people were influential to him: Juan González, Yoruba, Felipe Luciano, Mickey Melendezand Richie Pérez. Outside of the Young Lords Party organization Garden Acosta shares that he was inspired by Frank Espada, and claims that he was the greatest organizer that brought together African Americans and Latinos. He also notes that Evelina López Antonetty was influential to him and called him her son. Garden Acosta also says that Isolina Ferrér, Sister Thomas Marie and Monsignor John Powers, whom took a fatherly role in his life after his father passed away, were all influences for him as well.
