Description

This lease grants London Dayton use of land owned by John Dayton in Redfield, Oneida County for the rest of his natural life. In other deeds, London (sometimes spelled Lunnon) is identified as an free African American from East Hampton. Conditions of lease as follows: "know ye that if I should not occupy said lot, or should go on & occupy said lot and make improvement thereon and move off of said lot then in such cases these improvements which I have made together with said lot is to go back to the said John Dayton and to be held by him or his heirs or assigns." Witnessed by David Barns and Hannah Payne; not executed by a Suffolk County, N.Y. Justice of the Peace, etc.
