Description

Many of the mounts are blind stamped in oval format: Courret Hermanos / Fotografos / Calle Mercadres, 197 / Lima.Handwritten captions in French appear on the upper left corner of most mount versos; many captions have been trimmed along the upper edge of the mount.Label on verso of front free endpaper in each album: Adolphe Legoupy / Marchand d'Estampes / 5 Boul. de la Madeleine / Paris.Album I, written on the 2nd leaf, recto in dealer's (?) hand: Album I / 42 phot. In pencil on the 2nd leaf, verso: Tremblement de terre d'Arequipa / Août 1868 / ... qui date l'album.Album II, written on the 2nd leaf, recto in dealer's (?) hand: Album II / Chili 1868 / 52 phot. / Un album même Courret Hermanos / contient des photos de Pérou, avec le / Tremblement de terre d'Arequipa en 1968. At bottom of leaf: B... /2 rue Casimir Périér (7e).Title devised.Binding Note: Both albums are bound in red morocco. Endpapers (paste-downs and free endpapers) are covered in emerald green silk moiré. The front free endpapers are each gilt stamped with a heraldic device: album I contains a shield divided in three parts containing a horse, a tree and a cornucopia, surmounted by wings and a laurel wreath and flanked by gold flourishes; album II contains a shield divided in two parts with a large star in its middle, flanked by a crowned rampant lion and a crowned rampant eagle and surmounted by plumes with flourishes below.Inventory of photograph...
