Bill of sale dated October 22, 1860 for a Negro slave named Lavenia Mitchell sold by William Cooke of Baltimore City, Maryland to Georgiana Williams, wife of Benjamin Williams, of Howard County, Maryland. The sale is in the amount of $350. Witnessed by Justice of the Peace J. G. Worthington on October 22 and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins (who spells Cooke's name without the "e" and Mrs. Williams' first name as Georganna) on October 30, the document identifies Lavenia Mitchell as a Negro woman age 50 years.
