Title devised by cataloger.This document provides information "alleging that they [the trustees of Francis Jackson's will - William Lloyd Garrison, Edmund Quincy, Samuel May, Jr., Wendell Phillips, Edmund Jackson, William I. Bowditch, and Charles K. Whipple] have not complied with the decree of the court in respect to the administration of the trust." It explains that Garrison, Quincy, and May refused to pay the required funds in two portions to the American Freedmen's Union Commission "because they believed the payments of so small an amount would not be a faithful administration of their trust" and preferred instead to pay all the money immediately. The trustees also disagreed about whether using funds to promote African-American suffrage, or women's rights, would fit Jackson's will better than paying the American Freedmen's Union Commission to operate schools. Due to these differences the trustees have not paid any money to any organization and so have not administered the trust. The document includes a statement by the Attorney General, Charles Allen, as well as letters of the trustees responding to the statement and a report of one of the trustees meetings.
