Description

Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger. On verso, after the letter from Hunting to May, May writes another letter to William Lloyd Garrison, sent from Leicester, Massachusetts on Sunday, July 11, 1858.S.S. Hunting writes to Samuel May, Jr. agreeing that May's arrangements for the quarterly meeting are "best for us at present." He says that he could make arrangements for another meeting in Brookfield in the future, but that he might move to Manchester, New Hampshire in the fall. After his autograph, he tells May that, "Any time while I am in Br[ookfield] when Mr. Garrison will speak to my people Sunday, he shall have the pulpit unless something special prevents." In the secod letter from Samuel May to William Lloyd Garrison, May tells Garrison that "Hunting's desire clearly is to have you occupy his pulpit" and he offers to make the arrangements if Garrison wants to go. He suggests Garrison could speak to two or three meetings there but that "the Society is not as large as that at Athol, but I think you would have a well-filled house, with suitable notice." After his autograph, he proposes Sunday, July 25, for a date to speak in Brookfield.
