The cover photograph depicts a 1905 Atlanta University production of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. The play was directed by Adrienne Herndon, the wife of prominent African American businessman Alonzo Herndon.The Atlanta Historical Bulletin was first published in 1927 under the editorship of Walter McElreath, a prominent Atlanta, Georgia attorney. The essays focused on various aspects of Atlanta's history and culture and were written by both scholars and local historians.
