Description

In this letter to her father, William F. Hottel, and her stepmother, Miss Bessie, Della recounts meeting Major W. F. Moore, the American Consul to the Danish West Indies, and his family: Mrs. Moore, Edith, Tillie, Edna, Nina, and Wilmerding. She describes the residence, her own room, and the first meals she eats on land. She mentions that she will be playing tennis and that there is a choice of churches to attend--Episcopal or Danish--and that the "colored people all go to churchwith the whites." She comments that letters to the U.S. cost 10 cents. Lastly, she briefly describes the town and landscape.
