A note in May's writing at the top of the envelope conveys the contents of Stearns' letter to May and of McKim's letter to StearnsThis letter was forwarded by Stearns to Samuel May on December 26, 1859. See Ms.B.1.6 v.7, p.86 for his letter of transmittalTitle supplied by catalogerMcKim tells Stearns that he did all he could to recover the bodies of Copeland and Green, who were executed with John Brown at Charlestown, Virginia
