Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Manuscript is annotated on verso as addressed from "Sam. J. May Syracuse N.Y. 26 Sept. 1863" and as addressed to "Rev. R. F. Walcutt".Page no. 3 of manuscript is a typeset circular entitled "Education of the Poor Black and White Population In Our Southern States", published in Syracuse, and dated "Sept. 9, 1863", which is addressed from the Executive Committee of the Auxiliary Freedman's Relief Association of the city of Syracuse, calling for a meeting to be held on September 11, 1863 at the First Presbyterian Church. This circular is unaddressed in May's letter to Wallcutt.Samuel Joseph May writes Roger Folger Wallcutt that Professor Andrew D. White has been nominated to the New York State Senate, and labels him "an admirable man" for the office. May states that the friends of White wish to use his letter to "Dr. Russell of the London Times" to support his campaign, and requests that Wallcutt immediately send to him "all the copies remaining unsold in Boston".
