Negro Red Cross Canteen, Meridian, Mississippi. This canteen unit, with the aid of the men in group, voluntarily undertook the establishement of a center for the wounded of their race in the storm of April 21, 1920, and at Lincoln School, Meridian, not only nursed, but fed and clothed scores of the storm-victims. Their leader, Nettie Majors, is not included in the group as she answered the first call for Red Cross help and with a group of white workers from the Lauderdale County Chapter A.R.C. went to Philadelphia to give needed aid there. In addition to the splendid work at Lincoln Center, the members of this Red Cross Unit of negro women served in many capacities at the Matty Herse (Charity) Hospital in Meridian

After race riots, June 1921 Class of twenty-one colored women taking the Red Cross course in Home Care of the Sick at San Francisco Chapter Headquarters Building in the Civic Center. This class was organized in April 1919, and most of the members passed their examination above ninety percent and practical work was perfect. The class held its organization and took the course in First Aid and Dietetics. One of the women who had bad eyes had the lessons read to her by her young son in the evening. She passed with a ninety percent grade. Julia Hinkle, Chapter Director of Class Instruction, is organizing other classes among the colored people in San Francisco John Smith, a full-blooded Indian of Cass Lake, Minnesota, though too old to fight during the Civil War is now a Red Cross member. 128 years of age Brigadier General, James M. Kennedy, of the Walter Reed Hospital, Wash., D.C., presents Mrs. Coolidge with the first chrysanthemums of the season from the gardens of the disabled veterans, who are patients at the hospital. Mrs. Coolidge visited the veterans as a Red Cross volunteer worker in the costume of a "Grey Lady" Capt. H.G. Burke, wounded American soldier in the U.S. General Hospital at West Baden, Ind., is learning a useful occupation.
