Description

Indians have been camping with the army and are currently gathered to council with Dr. Forney, Superintendent of Indian Affairs. The Indians report that the Mormons are still engaged in fortifying key positions. Governor Cumming has returned from Salt Lake City and found everything in good order. He has given an address in the Mormon tabernacle causing 150 people to petition him about safe passage from Zion; many escapees are now in the army camp, where they are being treated well. The foundations of the temple have been filled in with dirt and the Lion House has been boarded up. Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball are building homes in Provo.
