Photograph of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo delivering a speech to supporters of the Hollywood 10, a group of screenwriters and film makers who were jailed for their refusal to cooperate with the House Committee on Un-american Activities (HUAC). This photograph was published in the California Eagle with the following caption: "Dalton Trumbo addresses more than 1,000 people who assemble in protest against his jailing for contempt of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Listening to him here are David Robison, second from Trumbo's right, and Howard Koch, chairman of the Hollywood chapter of the Arts, Sciences and Professions (Council). Second from Trumbo's left is Gordon Kahn, author of 'Hollywood on Trial,' the story of the Hollywood Ten. Trumbo with his colleagues are now serving time in a federal penitentiary for the defense of free conscience and the Bill of Rights."
