John Gates; discussing the issue's "special importance to Negro Americans seeking to escape the degradation of 'second-class citizenship' and Jim Crow oppression"; describing the case and its implications at length, and providing the legal background therefor; and urging the court to deny the prosecutions request "for judicial acquiescence in its demand that defendant act as 'finger man' against his associates."
