Description
Holograph, signed. The annual meeting of the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society was held at 39 Hanover Street, and more than 200 were present. Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman's report was unanimously accepted, "all seeming highly delighted." Anne Warren Weston was surprised "at their grit for it was a very spicy affair." The marriage of Ann Terry Greene to Wendell Phillips took place on Thursday last (Oct. 12). Anne names those people present at the wedding, and describes the dress of the bride. "The old lady Phillips entre nous behaved like a perfect Dragon." She reports the death of Oliver Torrey. Gives news of her family and friends. Notes that "yesterday my book came from New York ... No additions came from Dr. & Mrs. [Charles Theodore Christian] Follen ..." Anne received letters from Beriah Green and Gerrit Smith. "Beriah's is mere namby-pamby. Gerrit's does very well." The latter is on slave labor products. Anne is pretty well, and her lungs are getting stronger. Caroline Weston is thinking of hearing Governor Edward Everett's lecture tonight. Anne is glad that Deborah will be back again. "It is as well that preparatory to scattering next spring we should have one quiet winter together.
