This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:25, is a feature about musician Willie Lee Pennyman of Atlanta who died in 1985. Pennyman, who was also known as Piano Red, played house parties in Atlanta neighborhoods like Pittsburgh and on the west side of town. The program features interview excerpts and examples of his music. Atlanta music promoter Bill Lowery is also interviewed. The second segment, which begins at 16:33, is a performance of the song "Southwind" by Berne Poliokoff. The third segment, which begins at 18:10, is a feature about the 50th anniversary of the publication of "Gone With the Wind." The program is focused on the lack of public attractions in Atlanta centered around the book, and features descriptions of plans for such. The program features audio excerpts from former Atlanta City Councilman John Greer; collectors Herb Bridges and Jim Swords, and Pat Arnold and David Brown of Historic Jonesboro. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis."Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis.
