Description

When a group of Freedom Riders visited Mobile in 1961, they posed with John LeFlore, one of Mobile's civil rights leaders. He is standing second from the right. First conceived of in 1947 by the Congress of Racial Equality and the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the violent freedom rides of 1961 were launched by student activists, some pictured here.
