Deed of manumission dated April 10, 1815 from John Cord of Anne Arundel County, Maryland to his Negro slaves named Bett (Elizabeth), Henry, and Fanny. Witnessed by Kitty D. Hood and Justice of the Peace Thomas Hood on April 10, 1815 and attested to by Anne Arundel County clerk Jos. H. (Joseph H.) Nicholson (from liber 13 folios 301-303) on April 24, 1815, and recorded by the late clerk of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County Jno. L. (John L.) Moore on October 9, 1846 and examined by the present district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on March 16, 1847, the document provides specific information about each slave: Bett (Elizabeth) (no age given), to be set free immediately; Henry, "my mulatto boy", born January 24, 1814 and now with Rebecca Martin, to be set free when he reaches age 27 years; and Fanny, "my Negro girl", born June 18, 1811 and now with Nancy Hammond, daughter of Charles Hammond, to be set free when she (Fanny) reaches age 27 years. (Editor's note: In the 1840s, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851.
