Description

The November 1964 SNCC retreat at Waveland, Mississippi, produced a lot of introspection and soul-searching. Documents from the meeting in this folder include a list of topics to discuss; a study outline or agenda dealing with various power issues arising from the civil rights movement; a description of a study institute to be held following the SNCC retreat; a variety of questions and statements about SNCC's future structure, ideology, and programs, including the various Friends of SNCC groups around the country; the purchase of a SNCC headquarters building in Atlanta; SNCC's involvement with southern college campuses; and suggestions for improving its Communications Department. Some of the documents are hopeful; some of them are despairing.
