Description

Lucretia Mott was raised as a Quaker and her religious beliefs shaped her opinions as an Abolitionist and a Suffragist. Mott was a member of the American Anti-Slavery society and was one of the founders of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society. She orgainized the Senaca Falls Convention with Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1848. After the convention Mott published Discourse on Women and protested the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Mott later went on to become the first president of the American Equal Rights Association and was involved in the establishment of Swarthmore College.
