Description

Letter from Charlotte Cowles in Farmington, Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles in Windsor, Vermont. She mentioned Daniel Tuttle, editor of the Farmington Universalist newspaper was tried at their house for disturbing and Methodist meeting. Asa Phelps visited gain ande expects to return. She mentioned that Dr. Joel Hawes was a decided abolitionist and preached to his congregation in Hartford on the subject while Dr. Porter renounced Colonization and was leaning toward abolition. Anti-slavery sentiment was growing in Farmington. She dined with Dr. Porter on Thanksgiving day. She shared other news of people coming and going from town.
