Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in brown ink on white paper. Above the salutation, the number "177" is written in pencil. Along the spine edge of the fourth page, the phrase "Miss Margaret B. Ritchie, Edinboro, July 18, 1867." is also written in pencil, vertically, facing the fore edge of the page.Margaret B. Ritchie writes to William Lloyd Garrison sending him a portrait of Dr. Andrew Thomson [not included] and apologizing for not being able to invite Garrison to spend an evening with the family due to the "state of health of our family." Ritchie hopes Garrison has enjoyed his visit to Edinburgh and says she is "happy to think [Edinburgh] can now claim the honour of having you for a citizen." She tells Garrison the letter is on behalf of her mother and sisters, as well as herself, and they all send their regards to Garrison and his son and daughter.
