Holograph, signed.May's writing on the envelope reads, "Ans'd Feb. 2, '49." Additional notes by May are on the envelope, including a list of materials to send to his various correspondents.Title supplied by cataloger.At the advice of Mary Carpenter, Chapman sends some of his poems to May for publication in "The Liberty Bell." He also says he is interested in the hardships of the poor in his own country.
