Benton, Elijah

Description

A native of Mississippi, Elijah Benton settled in Toledo in 1923 following his World War I service. Within a few years, he was called to the ministry and served as pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church for forty-eight years. During his years of ministry, he served on several state and national Baptist church boards along with the Toledo Board of Community Relations. Reverend Benton died on July 8, 1977.
