Collected by Irene Carlisle Transcribed by Nathaniel Lucy Sung by Doney Hammontree Farmington, Arkansas May 15, 1951 Reel 113, Item 5 We Have the Navy Well, we have the Navy and we have the men Forward on to Richmond to storm the Rebel den On to Richmond, so early in the morning On to Richmond I heard the Yankees say We’ll flank it on the North and we’ll shell it on the South We’ll storm it in the East and we’ll run the rebels out On to Richmond, so early in the morning On to Richmond I heard the Yankees say Lee was in the center and Jackson in the rear And on the right and left side the noble hills appear Longstreet had to travel and Branch’s had to pass And Old Magruder was about to give the Yankees grass Was about the first of June when the balls begun to fly The Yankees took and wheeled about and changed their battle cry Off from Richmond, so early in the morning Down to the gunboats, run boys, run Floridy is a-huntin’, a-huntin’ through the brush The rebels are in earnest, push boys, push The Louisiana Legion, Butler was the cry The Texas Rangers coming, fly boys fly Virginia is a-comin’ with her death defyin’ steel Georgia is a-chargin’ across the swamps and field Off from Richmond, so early in the morning Down to the gunboats, run boys, run The Palmetto rebel is now upon the trail And Arkansas devil...
