Correspondence includes original postage stamp.Holograph, signed.May's handwriting near the address reads, "Rec'd. Dec. 7, '53."Title supplied by cataloger.Steinthal informs May that a group of about forty people in Bridgewater have founded an Anti-Slavery Society, which studies the abolition movement and produces articles for the Anti-Slavery Fair. He asks May to write a letter explaining the difficulties of the American Anti-Slavery Society, saying that he wants to avoid having to explain the dissension that can arise among the abolitionists to his group. Steinthal says that Reverend James Miller McKim has done a great deal of good and that Mr. Louis Alexis Chamerovzow is having trouble with the "old society." Steinthal mentions the free labor issue and concludes by asking for May's counsel and advice.
