Original program for films shown the week of March 17, 1940 at the Strand Theatre in Ipswich, Massachusetts. This is a special St. Patrick’s Day edition, and the cover features an advertisement for the March 24-30 screenings of Gone with the Wind. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh co-star in this historical drama about the American Civil War and Reconstruction periods.The second page includes two film advertisements. Eternally Yours is scheduled for March 17. Loretta Young and David Niven star in this drama about a woman swept off her feet by a magician. The next advertisement is for the March 18 and 19 showings of The Light That Failed. Ronald Colman stars in this drama about a London artist gradually losing his eyesight.Page three also features two film advertisements. Young as You Feel is booked for March 20. Jed Prouty, Spring Byington, and Joan Valerie star in this comedy about the Jones family in New York City. The second advertisement is for the March 21 and 22 screenings of Slightly Honorable. Pat O’Brien stars in this “season’s scariest and screwiest thriller-diller!”The final page of the program is dedicated to a double feature screening on March 23. The Big Guy is a crime drama starring Victor McLaglen, Jackie Cooper, and Ona Munson. The next film is The Fighting Gringo starring George O’Brien.Currently not on view
