I was standing at the post office When a maid came riding down, She stopped and broke her pony And soon was on the ground, She gave to us all there An invitation grand To attend the cowboy's ball At the old El Capitan. Next Saturday night we all met there At the school house by the road, A few fellers came from Drippin' Springs, Many come up from Globe, The music they brought with them I never shall forget, A colored man with his guitar, I hear him singin' yet. The cowboys in their high heel boots They led us a grand march, And the tenderfoots follered With their collars stiff with starch, After dancing once or twice I stepped out in the cool, And ever' bush that I passed by Was loaded with white mule.The Mormon Cowboy Reel 359, Item 1 Continued Just shortly after supper, Just shortly after one, A row was started outside, Some feller pulled his gun, A man stepped up to me With eyes a-flashing fire, He said, "I am the ramrod Of the ranch...
